Fundraising events are a lot of work, but properly executed, they can be a great source of revenue for your ministry.

What kind of fundraising events could you do? Here are three great fundraising events that could help your ministry or non-profit raise money.

Fundraising Event #1: A Banquet or Gala

Ed Bailey from No Longer Bound hosts a fundraising banquet every year and it’s become a must-attend event in the country. Last year, about 600 people attended and the ministry raised $235,000.

A banquet, gala or dinner could work for you as well. Invite the right people, give them a great experience, cast vision for the organization and and ask people to give. Another former client, Taylor’s Closet, used video from their 10th annual gala celebration to tell their story in a promo video. Check it out here.

Successful events often involve a guest speaker, and we’ll walk you through how to find the right one and leverage their influence properly in the course.

Fundraising Event #2: A Fundraising Auction

Your ministry could organize an in-person, silent or online auction and fund a good bit of ministry.

Beacon of Hope does this each year, and they also raise a large portion of their annual budget.

You’ll want to involve a group of volunteers to solicit donations and make sure the auction itself is top notch. You could even take the entire auction online and run it for a month.

Fundraising Event #3: A Sporting Event

Heart of the Bride organizes an annual Mud Run for their big event. This messy but unique experience has been very successful in raising big funds and awareness for their cause.

But golf tournaments, 5k road races, and basketball tournaments could work just as well.

These type of events take a lot of work to organize and promote, but you can raise money through sponsorship and entry fees.

Those are three of the most popular fundraising events we see in the non-profit world. But be careful…they are a lot of work and there are lot of opportunities to make mistakes. Here are Five Fundraising Event Mistakes you should avoid as you plan for your next fundraising event.
